Canon have always been re-known for reliability coupled with excellent quality outputs.  Popular design functions and easy to find cartridges.  They have been in the printing and imaging industry for many years, they produce a reliable quality product that over time has been enhanced and developed to an industry standard.  Photography is also their forte with industry leading photographic equipment.

The Canon MB5460 printer  enhances an already busy business sector delivering a fast printing and scanning solution for the small business either in a home or office-based situation.  The second model MB5160 does most of these functions in a scaled down version that may suit many people.

The MB5460 and MB5160 printer provides their owners with reliable and cost- effective output with quality and efficiency.  These two printers are squarely optioned for this business segment.  The Canon MB5460 printer is designed for offices that require a higher volume of printing whereas the MB5160 may be more suitable for home offices and personal users with a higher printing requirement. Both the MB5460  and MB5160 multifunction printer can print double sided, copy, scan both sides of a page in one action, and fax.  The MB5460 has a greater capacity of a second paper tray which is very convenient if you need this feature.  Those who need the convenience of the second tray the MB5460 is definitely worth paying the price.

The compact design of both the printers will not daunt an office, as some have done in the past.  Long gone are the days of the massive printer that needs a complete office space desk to itself.  Most printers have been downsized to accommodate office restructures and many printers these days will do most functions that the previous larger machines completed.
Output quality in both printers can go to photo quality, Canon continues to provide the user with outstanding output.  The printer is rated to print up to a maximum resolution of 1200 x 600 dpi.  This output compares well with laser printing which used to be the outstanding virtue for laser machines.  Colour printing from both printers allows use for marketing materials and alike as well as photo printing when needed.

Scanning resolution is up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. This may not be as defined as some of the home-based scanners as the lower resolution is more than adequate for business purposes. The slightly lower scanning resolution enhances the speed for the scanner. Using the 50 page automatic document feeder (ADF), you have the capability of  scanning documents on either printer of up to 19 ipm mono and 16 ipm in colour. (images per minute) Slightly slower for double sided documents.

The MB5460 has the more paper capacity.  This is quite unusual as most manufacturers tend to have reduced capacities than this printer. A standard with a total capacity of 500 sheets divided into two trays of 250 sheets each which provides the ability to still provide adequate capacity and different paper types or sizes.  The MB5160 has a capacity of 250 sheets in the single tray.  All printing can be duplexed (doubled sided) or single depending upon your preference.

Print speed is rated at up to 24 ipm and 15.5 ipm and first pages out at up to 6 seconds.  Most will find the print speed to be more than adequate providing for quantity of prints required.

Cost of Ownership:

As with all printers initial cost is always low to appeal to the prospective customer. Total cost of ownership should always be taken into account, to ensure that your printing decision is what best suits your situation.

Both the MB5460 and MB5160 take the 2600 series ink cartridges.  XL series of these inks is always more cost effective even though the initial cost is slightly more.  Compatible inks can be purchased and these also provide savings on the overall cost of ownership.

Quoted outputs by Canon:
2600xl inks provide up to 2500 pages (black)
